My life as a mother, a business owner and engaged citizen is a busy one. Often I am “on the go” from the moment I get up until I settle down late in the evening. Many of us live this way. In our modern times there is so much to do, so much to take in, so much to process on an on-going basis. It is easy to lose touch with what is going on inside of us, especially inside the body.
It is up to us to take the time to slow down, unplug, allowing the mind to quiet and the heart to open. In the 5Rhythms® practice we view the body as a vessel for spirit with an endless possibility of creative expression. Can we tap into this resource and let ourselves be guided and inspired by its inherent wisdom? Can we shift from planning or reflecting to sensing and feeling?
When we move our bodies with awareness the invitation is to drop into ourselves below the level of thought and receive what is truly present in the here and now – sensations, emotions, breath and rhythm. Then we can begin to hear our own song that is connected to our essence in its beauty and uniqueness. What would it be like to move through our lives with a sense of deep connection to our own rhythm and body wisdom?
Through dancing the 5Rhythms® for almost 20 years I have learned to keep my attention rooted inside my body, so that even in times of busyness I am able to stay connected to its intelligence and the present moment. My teacher Gabrielle Roth says so beautifully that “our bodies are the ground metaphor of our life, the expression of our existence.
